6:00 pm and finally time. One by one, the room slowly filled up as people, old and young, entered and sat awaiting the start of the second annual Chhipa convention held on May 28, 2010 at Veterans Memorial Park. With the name of Allah, brothers, Saad and Salman Guliwala gave a beautiful Quranic recitation and translation, marking the beginning of the convention, followed by speeches from guest speakers, Mohmedhanif Dakwala and Kasamji Chhipa(Khabatwala). In addition, through an informational presentation and video, exposing the hidden influence of superstitions in Chhipawad, the audience was better able to become knowledgeable about the community back home and the positive influence the works of CFA and its future projects can have our Chhipawad.
However, this day was nothing less of a fun-filled time for everyone. From our delicious food, including our famous Chhipawad Halwa, to our Carom and Basketball competition, the first day of the convention was a blast for all.
The second day of the convention, everyone enjoyed the beautiful sunny day with a picnic and barbeque. Of course, nobody can forget the excitement of the little ones, as they ran to enjoy their day at the swimming pool, while the older ones had just as much fun, with their volleyball and cricket matches. After Maghrib, everyone enjoyed their time at Nasir Chhipa’s home, where the women got a chance to chat and the kids finally got their hands on the PS3 and of course, the pizza. This amazing day ended at ICCNOV, where everyone took pleasure in watching our kids show off their various talents. From the beautiful Quran recitations, to magic tricks, to an entertaining “tying a rubber band to knot with ONE HAND!,” all the children’s talents were very fun and entertaining to see.
However, nobody can forget the amazing talent of Abdullah Indorewala as he took our audience by surprise as he presented his 3D computerized structure of Masjid-ul-Haram that he created through Google Sketch, ultimately making him the winner of the competition.
Meanwhile, the youth also had a chance to present their ideas for future projects of CFA to benefit our community back home. Finally, we all got to enjoy an awesome jeopardy game about Chhipawad, with the women as the winners, marking the end of the second annual Chhipawad convention. Just as last year, this convention was an enjoyable experience for all and we hope to see more next year inshaAllah.
